YouTube beauty star, Kathleen Lights, collaborated with Makeup geek to create a three shade highlighter palette. Kathleen lights, with almost 2.5 million subscriber on YouTube and 1.5 million Instagram followers, is a beauty icon for many of her followers. Makeup Geek, on the other hand, is a brand that believes in making makeup easy for everyone. When these two partnered and that too to create a highlighter palette, it has to be great.
This is the first time that makeup geek has come up with highlighters. Although soon they are launching a complete range of highlighters. With this collaboration, Makeup Geek debuted their highlighters. Makeup Geek X Kathleen Lights Highlighter Palette features three beautiful shades. According to Kathleen’s note on the back of the palette’s sleeve, she wanted to create a palette that suits every skin color. The three shades in this palette are meant to suit three different skin tones: light, medium and dark.
Makeup Geek X Kathleen Lights Highlighter Palette costs $39 and at first you might think $39 is a bit expensive for a makeup geek product but the palette has three full-size highlighters (7 gram each). Most of the single high-end highlighters with almost same quantity cost $30 to $40. If we divide the total price into three, the price of each highlighter turns out to be only $13. So, in my opinion, with this highlighter palette you get a good quantity for the price.
It is a sleek rectangle palette and comes in a cardboard sleeve. The sleeve has Kathleen’s name written on it. The top of the palette has the same embossed Makeup Geek design similar to Makeup Geek X Manny MUA Palette.
The palette doesn’t have any mirror. Each highlighter has a pressed pattern on it. All three shades are designed by Kathleen herself and produced by Makeup Geek. The three shades in this palette are:
- Nightlight – Light Gold
- Starlight – Rosy Pink
- Sunlight – Copper
These are foiled finish highlighters . The formula looks moist and creamy. Highlighters in this palette look very smooth and creamy in texture. These highlighters are talc-free as well. This formula reminds me of Anastasia Beverly Hills Illuminator.
If we talk about the shade range in this palette, each shade is targeted towards a particular skin tone. All the shades in the palette look darker and it actually gave me an impression that it will only suit medium skin tone. But when I swatched the shades, these turned out to be lighter than what they look in the pans. Nightlight is for fair skin color, Starlight for Medium skin color and Sunlight is for darker skin color. I personally like Nightlight the most even though I have light to medium skin tone. I didn’t try Sunlight because it’s a bit darker for me.
Swatches of Makeup Geek X Kathleen Lights Highlighter Palette
All three shades apply very smoothly on the skin and the application is very precise. These are not chunky or powdery at all. Unlike many other highlighters, you don’t see flakes of glitter in these highlighters.
Since the formula is foil, these give you a very nice glow. These are also super pigmented. I would say these highlighters are buildable and can give you subtle to very intense glow without making you look glittery.
If you are getting this palette for yourself, chances are that you will end up using only one or two of the shades as each shade is for different skin tone. If you are a makeup artist and get to deal with different skin colors, this would be a good investment for you. These highlighters can also be used as eyeshadows and would give you a similar effect as makeup geek foiled eyeshadows.
I am very impressed with this new makeup geek highlighter formula and it has made me super excited for their upcoming range of single highlighters. Makeup Geek X Kathleen Lights Highlighter Palette has something for everyone 🙂
